The leadership team at Affero represents world-class management experience in the Internet and software marketplace. We are a team of responsible netizens that understands how to deliver value to electronic communities, cares about the common good and is driven by a passion to help individuals support their causes through volunteering and patronage.

Henri Poole

For the past 10 years, Henri Poole has been a pioneer in the Internet communications industry. During this period, he has led teams of employees, contractors, and volunteers in the successful online deployment of grassroots projects and major international brands including Mandrake Linux and the online launch of Windows95. Mr. Poole is actively involved in the research and development of reputation systems, social networking tools, and methods for online fundraising. Mr. Poole serves on the Board of Directors for the Free Software Foundation and Affero, Inc., as well as the Advisory Board of Blue Oxen Associates. As the principal of Civic Actions, he is currently advising campaigns on the effective use of emerging tools to empower grassroots activism. Henri is one of the core team members of the AdvoKit project - Free GOTV Software.


Bob Winslow

In his 20 years of professional sales and marketing experience, Bob has proven his ability to deliver business performance. He has a history of successfully being able to convert market and technological trends and data into value-ad service and product offerings. Prior to Affero, he was VP of World-Wide Sales and Marketing at Mandrakesoft, a leading global distribution in the GNU/Linux space. At Mandrakesoft, Bob built the strategy and organization that produced one of the most widely accepted GNU/Linux distributions in the world as well as successful professional services and e-service initiatives. He has pre and post-IPO experience with software and Internet companies, as well as experience within larger corporate organizations such as IBM. He is a graduate of Santa Clara University and Harvard's Executive Management Program.


Chris Reed

Chris is an experienced entrepreneur with a portfolio of successful start-up Internet ventures. He possesses a keen ability to understand market trends, client needs and how to deliver value with revolutionary business models. His professional style is defined by his tenacity to win and help build a successful team. Prior to Affero, Chris was a Product Marketing Director at Mandrakesoft, a leading global distribution in the GNU/Linux space. At Mandrakesoft, he pioneered the delivery of e-services platforms for commerce, support and learning. He also founded Travel Tourism Jobs, an online recruitment web site and was an early partner in Vivid Travel Network, a designer of online multilingual city guides. Chris is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara.


Lori Winslow

Lori has over 10 years of professional experience with leading Internet and software companies in the e-marketing, information technology and financial services sectors. She has developed a reputation for successfully understanding and serving market needs as well as project managing sophisticated technology offerings. Prior to Affero, Lori served as Senior Project Manger for Product Development at Bigfoot Interactive, where she managed the design, development and delivery of Bigfoot's first e-marketing ASP platform. She also directed the customization of platforms that managed millions of e-marketing messages and client databases for Lotus, IBM and Salon.com Her background includes pre and post-IPO experience at SS&C; Technologies and corporate experience with Standard and Poors. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.


Lee Doolan

Lee's career in software engineering spans twenty of the computer industry's most revolutionary years. He wrote his first program using a FORTRAN-IV compiler in the mid-1960's on a now ancient but then state of the art General Electric model 415 mainframe. He has been programming ever since and evolved to sophisticated Internet development efforts for the Department of Defense and private sectors such as manufacturing, telecommunications and the shipping industry. His most recent work includes the development of transaction engines, databases and web applications written in Perl, PHP and HTML. Lee has been involved with the Free Software and Open Source movement throughout his career with practical working experience in FreeBSD, Apache and PostgresSQL. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Jerry Scharf - Technical Advisor

Jerry has a distinguished career representing over 20 years of experience in the technology sector. He has developed a unique combination of strategic marketing and network operations management skills. Prior to Affero, Jerry established a proven track record with firms such as Cisco, Sony and Digital Equipment as well as entrepreneurial and consulting endeavors. The non-profit Internet Software Consortium flourished under his leadership as Executive Director where he developed a funding plan and closed over a million dollars of development contracts for the continuation of the BIND project. He has spoken at conferences around the world and he has written papers on subjects such as DNS management tools and governance of root name servers. Jerry is an active member of several IETF working groups including dnsext.

Rasmus Lerdorf -Technical Advisor

Rasmus has over ten years of professional experience in technology as a developer and IT consultant. Several years ago, he grew frustrated with available tools for developing web sites, and in 1994 he created PHP and helped it become one of the leading scripting languages in the world. A pioneer of the Free Software and Open Source movement, he managed a totally passionate community of developers and users to mature PHP into a globally used platform. He is a member of the Apache Software Foundation, Apache HTTP server core development team and the advisory boards for ActiveState and GreatBridge.

Jay Beale -Security Advisor

Jay Beale is the Lead Developer for Bastille Linux and an accomplished practicioner in GNU/Linux and Unix security. Jay wrote the original hardening script for the Bastille Linux Project, with the help of Pete Watkins and a number of other testers and Idea People. He's a frequent speaker at security conferences, discussing topics in Unix/Linux security from running DNS securely to auditing systems. Jay will be chairing the Incidents.org - Wargames conference, as well as the Security Section of the European Libre Software Meeting.

Jonathan Zimman - Financial Advisor

Jon has over 20 years of financial and product management experience in the Internet, telecommunications, publishing, and television industries. He has a track record of developing an operating discipline and the capital raising execution required to support the growth of the businesses he has managed. Prior to Affero, Jon served as Chief Financial Officer of SiteRock Corporation, a venture-backed market leader in eCommerce reliability services. He has secured over $80 million in venture funding for his businesses through relationships with leading investors such as Weiss Peck & Greer, Mohr Davidow, Patricof & Co., Merrill Lynch, GE Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Goldman Sachs, Robertson Stephens, and Ameritech. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
